Product Description
Polyurethane paint thinner is a blended solvent package designed to adjust viscosity of 2K polyurethane primers/topcoats
for brush, roller, conventional spray, and airless spray application. It improves atomization, flow/leveling, and helps
reduce orange peel when used at recommended levels. Select grade (fast/medium/slow) according to ambient temperature,
part size, airflow, and required flash-off.
Thinner Grade
PU Thinner (General) — Medium evaporation, general purpose
Use Guidance
Recommended addition: 5–20% by volume • Use with: 2K PU systems • Note: Do not exceed needed level; verify compatibility.
Typical Technical Data
Appearance
Clear, colorless liquid
Odor
Characteristic solvent odor
Specific gravity @ 25 °C
~0.85–0.95 (typical)
Evaporation rate
Fast/Medium/Slow — grade dependent
Flash point
< 25 °C (typical) — flammable
Solubility
Miscible with common PU solvents; not water miscible
Recommended addition
5–20% by volume (as required)
Primary use
Viscosity adjustment for 2K PU coatings; equipment cleaning (flush grade)
Shelf life
24 months in sealed containers (typical)
Storage
Store cool, dry, away from ignition sources; keep tightly closed
Values are indicative and may vary by formulation/grade. Use SDS for regulatory and hazard details.
Recommended Use & Compatibility
Area
Guideline
Typical dosage
Add gradually in small increments to reach required application viscosity. Typical: 5–10% for spray, 0–5% for brush/roller,
up to 15–20% only when needed (high solids materials or certain spray setups).
Grade selection
Fast: cool weather/small parts • Medium: general purpose • Slow: hot weather/large panels/extended wet edge.
Do not use
Do not use non-approved thinners (NC thinner, kerosene, diesel, methanol) as they can cause gloss loss, poor cure,
blushing, pinholes, or reduced adhesion.
Moisture control
Keep containers closed to prevent moisture pickup/contamination. Use clean, dry air supply during spraying.
Caution (Over-Thinning)
Excess thinner can reduce film build, increase sagging, cause dry spray, reduce gloss, and weaken coating performance.
Always target specified DFT/WFT and confirm by trial panel.
Handling & Safety
Highly flammable: keep away from heat, sparks, and open flames. No smoking.
Use in well-ventilated areas; avoid inhalation of vapors. Use organic vapor respirators when needed.
Avoid skin/eye contact; wear gloves and goggles. Wash hands after handling.
Store in approved flammable storage, tightly closed. Use proper grounding/bonding during solvent transfer.
Refer to SDS for full hazard, first-aid, and disposal guidance.
Emergency
In case of fire: use foam/CO₂/dry chemical. Do not use water jet. Evacuate area and call emergency services.
Quality Control (Suggested)
Check clarity, specific gravity, evaporation profile, compatibility with PU resin, and spray performance by trial.
Packaging & Storage
Typical pack sizes: 1 L, 5 L, 20 L (as agreed). Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight
and ignition sources. Keep containers tightly closed. Use FIFO stock rotation.
Notes & Disclaimer
Values shown are typical and may vary by solvent blend, grade, and regulatory requirements.
Always verify compatibility with the specific polyurethane coating system by trial.
